2010 GMC Acadia 6 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic 200 miles

I have a situation where i need to install a grab handle over the passenger door inside the vehicle other than the one factory installed from GMC near the front window. My brother is a Paraplegic and needs to get from the wheelchair to the seat using a handle mounted just above the passenger door in the middle. Right now there is an Air Bag they tell me running across that frame around the door. Can that Air Bag be removed and a handle mounted up there???
