The fuse on my fuel pump keeps blowing and my AA man tells me the likely answer is I need a new fuel pump which will cost more than the car is worth. And that may not cure the problem anyway. Any suggestions gratefully received

You could measure the current draw of the fuel pump directly. It's also possible for the relay or wiring to be shorted. We don't have that car here in the US so I don't have any detailed about the wiring circuit.
