Thermostat

Ford, Windstar, 2001, 102.000, 6cly, When taking of the thermostat housing the thermostat feel out and I don't know which end to put back in the housing.

The end of the thermastat that had the spring on it goes towards the engine side. What happens is the anti freeze/ water heats the spring and it looses tension then moves away from the closed position. The flatter end goes towards the radiator. If put in backwards the engine will overheat amount quickly.
