Question for a friend. He has a mercedes kit car. With a 1977 pinto engine. 2 Liter, and a 2barrel carburetor. (Motorcraft Model?) Recently it was rebuilt. We installed carburetor and started car. The car started fine. But realized the fuel was aged and needed to be drained. We added fuel booster, to help old gas. But then when we went to start the car again. The carburetor began flooding. Overflowing out of the reserve. And the car would not start. I have been told it could be the float or the needle. But again. Could I have a bad rebuild? Or could it be something else?

Check the fuel line, charcoal canister and canister purge line.
I suppose the car is running good.

Time to get down and dirty. Open the hood when the smell is present and follow the fuel system lines. This could be an injector leak. Be careful as atomized fuel is very combustible.
