How to replace heatercor

The instrument panel and steering column must be removed to remove the heater assembly. Two people are required to remove the assembly from the vehicle.

Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect positive battery cable and wait one minute for air bag diagnostic monitor to deplete the backup power supply.
Loosen main wiring connector bolt in the engine compartment at the left side of dash panel and separate connectors.
Remove radio antenna stanchion and disconnect cable from base of the radio antenna stanchion.
Remove both the right hand and left hand windshield side garnish mouldings.
Do not remove safety belt retaining bolts in next step.

Remove the screws retaining both the right and left front door scuff plates and remove the front door opening weather-strips from body flanges.
Remove the right and left cowl side trim panels.
Remove the steering column cover by removing the three screws along the bottom and pull on the cover to unsnap the three clips across the top of the instrument panel steering column cover.
Remove the ignition switch lock cylinder.
Remove the four screws retaining the steering column shrouds together and remove the steering column shrouds.
Install the ignition switch lock cylinder to prevent the steering wheel from turning.
Disconnect the wiring connectors at the turn signal and windshield wiper switch.
Remove the one screw and A/C evaporator register duct from under the steering column tube.
Disconnect the wiring connectors at the bottom of the steering column tube.
Remove the pinch bolt attaching the steering column tube to the steering column lower yoke and slightly spread the joint with a screwdriver.
While supporting the steering column tube, remove the four steering column tube retaining nuts.
Remove the interlock cable retaining screws and shift actuator cable fitting.
Carefully remove the steering column tube from the vehicle.
Loosen the main wiring connector bolt at the left side of the steering column opening and separate the connectors.
Disconnect the stoplight switch wiring connector. On the manual transmission, disconnect the clutch pedal position switch wiring connector.
Pull back the floor carpet as required on the left and right sides of the vehicle and disconnect the window regulator safety relay switch wiring, and the powertrain control module from the main wiring.
Open the glove compartment to the stop, unsnap the hydraulic lift from the right side.
Remove the three screws at the bottom retaining the glove compartment door hinge and glove compartment to the instrument panel.
Remove the glove compartment.
Reach through the glove compartment opening and disconnect the wiring and vacuum hoses/connector from the heater-A/C evaporator housing.
Disconnect the wiring connector from the speed control amplifier and bracket assembly.
Remove floor console panel: Open the console panel glove compartment door to access screws to console finish panel.
Remove the two screws, and lift the rear of the console finish panel to unsnap retainers.
Reach under the console finish panel and disconnect wires to fog lamp and ride control switches (if equipped) and cigar lighter socket and retainer.
Lift the rear of the console finish panel and slide rearward to release the two front locating tabs, remove console finish panel.
With the console panel door open, remove the console glove compartment mat.
Remove the center screw from the console (rear of shifter) bin, then lift the bin from the console panel. Disconnect the luggage compartment door release switch and fuel filler door lock switch (if equipped).
Remove the two screws from the bottom of the console panel bin to floor pan.
Remove the two cups and screws. Remove the floor console panel.
Remove the two screws retaining the front of the floor console panel to the instrument panel. Disconnect the remaining wires (main jumper wire) and main wiring, then lift the console panel from the vehicle. Protect the instrument panel surface during next step.
Using a putty knife or similar tool, insert under the left or right corner of the instrument panel upper finish panel and pry up on the instrument panel upper finish panel to release one snap clip.
Unsnap the remaining four clips pulling up by hand, working toward the opposite side of the vehicle.
Remove the two nuts retaining the left side of the instrument panel to the cowl side.
Remove the two nuts and one bolt retaining the instrument panel to the console bracket.
Remove the nut attaching the right side of the instrument panel to cowl side.
The following steps require two people.

Remove the six bolts retaining the top of the instrument panel to the dash panel.
Carefully pull the instrument panel away from the windshield glass while checking for and disconnecting any remaining wiring connectors. Disengage the antenna wire grommet from the sheet metal and pull the radio antenna lead in cable through.
Remove the right side instrument panel brace located above the heater case and attached to the cowl.
Drain the engine coolant from the cooling system, then remove the hoses from the heater core. Plug the hoses and the core.
Properly discharge the air conditioning system into freon recovery equipment.
Disconnect the vacuum supply hose (black) from the inline vacuum check valve in the engine compartment.
Disconnect the blower motor wire harness from the resistor and motor lead.
Working under the hood, remove the three nuts retaining the heater assembly to the firewall.
In the passenger compartment, remove the screw attaching the heater assembly support bracket to the cowl top panel.
Remove the one screw retaining the bracket below the heater assembly to the dash panel.
Carefully pull the heater assembly away from the dash panel and remove the assembly from vehicle.
Remove the four heater core access cover attaching screws, and the access cover from the case.
Remove the seal from the heater core tubes.
Inspect all seals for proper fit, replace if worn or cracked.
To install: Replace the heater core tube seal.
Install the heater core and the access plate, then tighten the screws.
Place the heater assembly into vehicle.
Install the retaining bracket and tighten screw.
Install and tighten the screws attaching the heater assembly support brace to the cowl top panel.
Replace and tighten the three nuts that secure the heater assembly to the firewall.
Connect the blower motor wires.
Connect the vacuum supply line.
Connect the heater hoses and tighten the clamps. Pressure test the cooling system to check the heater core installation.
Carefully place instrument panel to windshield glass while connecting wiring connectors.
Install the six bolts retaining the top of the instrument panel to dash panel.
Install the nut attaching the right side of the instrument panel to cowl side.
Install the two nuts and one bolt retaining the instrument panel to the console bracket.
Install the two nuts retaining the left side of the instrument panel to cowl side.
Snap the clips in place, working toward the opposite side of the vehicle.
Install the floor console panel.
Connect the wiring harness to the speed control amplifier and bracket assembly.
Reach through the glove compartment opening and connect the wiring and vacuum hoses/connector from the heater-A/C evaporator housing.
Install the glove compartment.
Install the three screws at the bottom retaining the glove compartment door hinge and glove compartment to the instrument panel.
Open the glove compartment to the stop, snap in the hydraulic lift from the right side.
Connect the window regulator safety relay switch wiring and the powertrain control module from the main wiring.
Attach the stoplight switch wiring connector and on manual transmission. Connect the clutch pedal position switch wiring.
Carefully install the steering column tube into the vehicle.
Install the interlock cable retaining screws and shift actuator cable fitting.
While supporting the steering column tube, install the four steering column tube retaining nuts.
Install the pinch bolt attaching the steering column tube to steering column lower yoke.
Connect the wiring at the bottom of the steering column tube.
Install the one screw and A/C evaporator register duct from under the steering column tube.
Connect the wiring at the turn signal and windshield wiper switch.
Remove the ignition switch lock cylinder which was temporarily installed to prevent the steering wheel from turning.
Install the four screws retaining the steering column shrouds together, then install the steering column shrouds.
Install the ignition switch lock cylinder.
Install the steering column.
Install the right and left cowl side trim panels.
Install the screws retaining both right and left front door scuff plates, then install the front door opening weather-strips to body flanges.
Install both the right hand and left hand windshield side garnish mouldings.
Install the radio antenna stanchion and connect cable to base of the radio antenna stanchion.
Connect the main wiring and tighten bolt.
Connect the battery cables.
Refill the cooling system using proper engine coolant.
Evacuate and recharge the air conditioning system.
