1992 Ford Tempo ignition switch

When I turn the key on nothing happens until just before the starter engages thats when the lights on the dash come on. When I take the pressure off the key after the car is running the car turns off. It will stay on if I hold the key to the on position.

It sounds like the actual electrical ignition switch in the steering column is bad and not the tumbler. To be sure, you will need to remove the steering wheel and get into the steering column to check where the problem is.
