Grinding sounds
1993 Ford Tourus GL
3.8 V6 107,000 Miles
Automatic, 2wd
Grinding sound from pulley system; At first I thought it was the water pump but I looked at the diagram for the engine and it's coming from the A/C / Idler pulley. I watched it as it was running and I could see that it would grab and cycle and then stop, along with what I was hearing. So, could it be the A/C clutch and/or the bearings? It's starting to smell because it's not cycling. will it hurt the car to keep driving it or should I repair it right away?
Also, how much would it cost to get it fixed would you say?

The clutch will only be loud if it slips, the pulley bearing will eventually sieze alltogether, then the serp belt will cook till it breaks! Your call tho!
