Hi:
What you need to do is check for fuel pump pressure drop off. When you turn the key on, there should be pressure. WHen you shut the key, it should hold pressure for some time. WHat you need is check for fuel pressure drop off when you first shut the key. IF it drops off right away, that is why it takes time to repressurize the system and longer to start.
Here is a how to for checking fuel pump pressure and drop off. Check it and let me know what you find.
engine will not start unless accelerator pedal is pressed to the floor. when engine starts it has no power or acceleration and catalytic converter turns red and gets hot enough to catch on fife. Fuel pressure is at 35psi.

Starts and runs fine when engine is cold. After is warms up it cranks about three times longer then when cold. After it starts runs rough for about 15 seconds than smoothes out. Do not notice any problems when driving

This is something that is going to require some troubleshooting to find the cause. When the problem happens is when it can be tested. I suggest making an appointment with a shop you are comfortable with to do the testing. Set up an appointment so that when you show up, the problem will be present and the diagnosis can be done. Make it clear that when you get there you want it checked at that time because that is when the problem is present. They should be expecting you and you should be prompt. May be a spark, fuel or timing issue. Needs to be diagnosed.

Is the starter turning the engine at a normal speed? Is it always hard to start? Has the check engine light come on? Has fuel pump pressure been checked?

Like its starving for gas. when it does start idle fluctuates and when accelerating it dies. Ive changed the fuel pump and filter.
I just changed pcv valve. car idles good, but when driving, after it shifts starts to lose power, when i let off pedal, gains power again. no codes now.

My car wont start and it has a new battery and alternator. When i go to start it it turns my electronics on but the starter makes a rapid clicking noise. I was wondering if theres any way to find out if its a short from the battery to the starter and how to fix it.

Okay. Thank you cause I just got a new battery Sunday and it started for about 3 days and now it won't start at all. My radio and lights and everything works but the starter just clicks until I stop trying to start it.

Good afternoon,
Does the engine crank over when it will not start?
in the last few weeks the car has been slow to start in the morning, but better later on. Then today it was even worse even after driving it. I had the battery, starter and alternator tested and everything was fine. what could be the problem?

When you say slow to start, do you mean it is taking longer than normal or do you mean the engine is cranking slowly?

Sometime when I turn the key it's like the battery is almost dead then it starts up after a few seconds - other times it starts right up!

If the starter sometimes cranks slowly, check to make sure all battery terminals are clean and tight. If they are, you need to have the starter checked to see if it is drawing too many amps when that happens. It may be in the process of going bad.

I have a 96 taurus its very hard to start I have to start it 25 to 30 times before it will keep on running the it runs very bad for 2 t0 4 minutes the rpm starts around 100 and goes up very slowly until it 600 rpm then it kick in and iddles very good at 1000 rpm .It will iddle no problems until I try to push the accelerator I can bring the rpm to 2000 very slowly but no more or it will staled if I dont let go of the peddle .When iddling the fuel presure stays around 40 if I rev it up the fuel presure drops to 10 lbs.I think that it must be the fuel pump but I cant get why it would be hard to start like that .It makes no difference if I just put the key to run to pump fuel up the rails Itried to turn the key on until the pump stops many times before trying to start the engine and it makes no difference for the first start its always a long time and many minutes before it iddles good.I was wondering if its the fuel pump that is gone can I instale a electric one on the fuel line instead of replacing the very expencive one in the thank.
Thanks in advance to any reply or suggestionsto my problem. The engine is a 3 litre 24 valve.

Sounds like the pump is bad.Takes alot of pressure to get a good spray through the injectors, that is why it is hard to start. No , the tank unit is the only viable replacement
