I have a 2001 Ford Taurus. When I start the car and put the car into drive, and try to push the accelerator, the gas pedal seems to be stuck, and as I push on it, it then releases and surges forward and I get a quick jolt to get going down the road. What would be causing this problem?

Make sure the accelerator cable is not hanging up on anything. Trace it from the pedal to the throttle body. If thats ok, then you could have a lot of carbon build up in the throttle body causing the throttle plate to stick. Hope the info helps
