2000 Ford Taurus Fuel Gauge

2000 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 130K miles

My fuel gauge does not read correctly.
When I turn car on it goes from full to empty.
I can"t tell how much gas I really have.
Can you give some advice how to fix.?
