Hi my taurus has been making noise when going over bumps. I thought it was a bad ball joint. But ended up that were the halfshaft goes into the transmission their is some play. It makes a clanking noise when going over bumps. Can this be fixed without taking apart the hole transmission? Thanks. Dave

Removal Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel assembly. Remove wheel hub retainer nut and washer. Discard retainer nut. Remove bolt attaching brake hose to strut. Remove and discard nut retaining lower ball joint to steering knuckle. On models equipped with air ride suspension, remove wiring harness from strut. Remove height sensor and secure aside. On models equipped with Anti-lock Brake Systems (ABS), remove ABS wheel speed sensor and secure aside. On all models, disconnect stabilizer bar at steering knuckle. Pull down on control arm assembly to separate ball joint from steering knuckle. To remove right axle shaft, use slide hammer with Extension (T86P-3514-A2) and separate axle shaft from transaxle. To remove left axle shaft, use a pry bar and separate axle shaft from transaxle.
