1997 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Automatic
I have a 97 Ford Taurus that I bought from a Title Pawn place at the beginning of last year. It ran fine then, but after about 5 months it started acting up. My check engine light is on, had it checked and they say that my number 1 injector is misfiring. Well about 3 months after that it started doing something like backfiring, but there's no noise with it, it just jerks like a backfire. Over the last 6 months, it's gotten worse. Going up hills is nearly impossible because of the "backfiring" problem. This last week though, it's gotten worse. When trying to crank the car, the engine doesn't turn over, I have to pump the gas and try cranking it, it finally cranks after about the 6th time doing that. Then last night, my husband was coming home from work, and the car just died on him. He tried pumping the gas to restart it, but nothing worked. We were told by a friend who isn't a licensed mechanic that it sounded like the fuel pump or filter.
