1997 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

This morning I started my car, put it into gear and it died, and wouldn't restart, it has done this before, and if I leave it for about 2 days it will restart, what could be causing this, as my current mechanic says there is nothing wrong.

Could you supply more info please. After it dies is it then completely dead or does it turn over with the key just not fire up? You say it has done this before. Did you have to jump start it
