When driving, the check engine light comes on and the RPM guage stops, and when you pull over, it sits and pulses up and down for about 1 minute or 2, then the light goes off and engine running decent. When you are driving and hit the gas, when it hits 4500 RPMs, it dogs out and becomes distorted.
HISTORY: I just bought the car. The engine had been replaced. The timing covers were left off so I haven't been able to check the timing.
What would you say is wrong with this car??

Hello,

There could be several different contributing factors for this issue. From a loose sensor to a faulty ECM.
Since the engine light does come on, the best first step would be to scan and retrieve the code(s). This could help with the diagnostics.
95 was a transition year from OBDI to OBDII for the diagnostic system. With majority of the vehicles had OBDI with few getting the OBDII.
So, the diagnostic procedure it will depend on which setup your vehicle has.

Here are OBDI instructions:

Here are OBDII instructions:

Please let me know what codes you find.
Thank you.
