i have 94 ford tauras with 130000 miles
the trans will shift into drive if you rev the engine a little high and then rus through the gears fine but it will not go into reverse you can hear it shift into reverse but it wont move
i just bought the car for 400.00 everything else is perfect on it paint interior everything just thought you might have an idea

i would check the fluid for being low and or caontaminated , fill to proper level if it is low , if it isnt low your problem is going to be internal

also the fluid is checked with the car running

we changed the filter and fluid it helped a little but nothing in reverse we thought it might be the torqe converter

most likely burned clutches or rev band , sorry to hear that , find yourself a good shop that has a good warranty

las t question does that mean a rebuild
if so no big deal ithink if i have to i still didnt get hurt on the deal

unfortunately yes , and it sounds like you picked up the car cheap , beroe you do a rebuild i would check prices on a reman unit from ford , you would be surprised at the difference in the overhaul unit and the reman , most of the time within 200 bucks and a better warranty nationwide , just some food for thought
