Speedometer/Odometer

My son has a 2000 Ford Ranger. The speedometer and odometer have both quit working. I have been told that a 2000 Ranger does not have a speed sensor on it. My husband and son looked and cannot find one. What else could it be? A GEM? Or something else?

I have a 99 ranger and it has a speed sensor. You can check to see if it does, mine is located in the top front of my differential. U should check that area to be sure. I don't think there is that much difference between those 2 years. It never hurts to look
