Serpentine belt problems

I own a 2000 Ford Ranger w/ about 84,000 miles on it. I have similar problems to the others posted here. Over the past 2 years, my car has gone through 3 belts. I can usually tell when I'm going to lose a belt when I start getting a bird-like squeaking noise coming from the engine, that I think is affected by the weather (only occurs when it is cold or rainy). The belts seem to all have the same tear along one side and then they just fall off the pulleys. The last belt my car ate, a new dull, knocking sound was coming from my engine. There is obviously something wrong with my car and no one seems to be able to give me an answer. I am confused and frustrated, please help.[/b]
