I'd suggest getting a repair that has a diagnostic tree. It will lead you step by step through what to check, and how to check it. A few hit and miss comments here won't take you near as far as the patterned search of a good diagnostic method. It is then as simple as "check so-and-so. This is how you check it. Is it good or bad? It's good?. Then step two." And so on, to an end.
