AC Question

Hi there. I have a '97 Ford Ranger (2.3L, Manual, 167K) which, no matter what setting I use, i.E. Heater on high, fan on 2, bi-level vent, will have the AC Compressor engage. (This scenario is true no matter what settings.) AC works fine. When I want AC and set to those parameters I get nice and cold. But even when I want just outside air or inside recirculation, or heat, it's always pre-cooled by the AC compressor engaging. When I turn the system off (fan sw. Off) then the compressor is off also. Any suggestions? Easy solution?

Thanks for the replies.

To merlin2021, no, it's all manual. Three controls, one for temp, one for fan speed, and one for vent control.

To justanold, yes, factory installed. But I am a little unclear. If I read you correctly, then although I am turning on heat at bi-level, my a/c compressor will engage? So I am heating precooled air? Not logical. Help me understand.

If it is set up as an always on a/c it's done to remove moisture from the cars interior. Keeps windows from fogging.

Wow. Well, I see the logic now, just the first time I've encountered this approach. Means that everything is working as it should.

Thanks for taking the time, guys.
