97 Ford Ranger - Is This a Clutch Problem????

I have 105,000 miles on my Ranger. I have no trouble shifting UP, but when I'm starting to slow down and push the clutch in to downshift, I hear a "groaning" noise, and the stick shift starts vibrating. This is especially bad shifting from 2nd to 1st gear. It's not difficult to shift into gear, though. Any ideas?? Thanks!!!

it could be a dry pilot bearing also. that is where the end of the trans shaft fits to the back of the engine.NOS 8)
