93 Ford Ranger tailgate latch not working
1993 Ford Ranger, 3.0L six-cyl, 134,000 miles
The passenger side tailgate latch will not release (driver side does). I'm assuming that the internal hook wire connector from the tailgate handle mechanism either fell off or was stretched out. I am able to use a straight edge scraper or screwdriver to push the problem latch in and open the tailgate. It appears that I need a large torx driver (not sure what size)to unscrew the latch mechanism. My intent would then be to try and replace the damaged hook wire. Is this how I should proceed in trying to repair this ???

Yes, You have two rods that go from the lever to the latch that has plastic clips that secure the rods to the lever. One of your clips must have broke, or came off.You will need a torx screw #30, or T-30.
