1993 Ford Probe Hard to turn the steering wheel

1993 Ford Probe 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 232000 miles
I was driving straght on the road, then the front right end of the engine started smoking and the steering became very hard/tight. Now it's very hard to turn the wheel.
