Brake noise

I have a 2000 Ford Windstar van that is in good condition. I purchased it used a few months ago when it had at the time 100 k miles. I had them install new brake pads all around at the time of purchase. The brakes are anti-lock and work fine, however there is a grinding noise in the right rear.
I took the drum off to inspect and found no problem.
I then took it to a mechanic who also took the drum off and said there was no problem. He said the pad may have a defect in it that caused the noise. It doesn't happen every time I depress the brake. Probably one in 10 times. More than an annoyance than anything. What do you think?
