when foot is taken off gas pedal, car cuts off and I have to manually turn the key to restart the car

More information needed, Engine ID, size model of car, is this when idling or driving?

Hi MHpautos,

the engine is 6.4, the car size and model is a 1996 ford lincoln towncar, the car cuts off while in idling

i am a bit confused with this so lets start again shall we...

Lincoln town car 4.6 if this is correct the first thing you need to do is go get a scan and check for any unresolved fault codes, as the idle is controlled by the ECU, there is no manual settings to be made, the throttle body butterfly should be clean and free of any sludge, there should be no vacuum leaks and the fuel system filter should be replaced as the spark plugs and air filter if they have not been done in some time, if the throttle plate is as in the pic (check the No... do not use any throttle body cleaner as it has a special protective deal that will be damaged)
