Coolant leaking

I have a 1998 mustang gt 131000, I noticed I have a leak coming from the firewall on the passenger side there is a medium size plug with a rubber piece in it, what is this and how can I repair it? I looked in my repair book and can't find anything on what that piece.

Think I found and fixed the problem talked to some mechanical friends and they said it was probably my heater core so for now I just bypassed the unit and connected the hose together. Thanks for the fast responce i'll keep u guys in my favorites for futher problems.
