coolant leaking

I have a 1998 mustang gt 131000, I noticed I have a leak coming from the firewall on the passenger side there is a medium size plug with a rubber piece in it ,what is this and how can I repair it? I looked in my repair book and can't find anything on what that piece.

think i found and fixed the problem talked to some mechanical friends and they said it was probably my heater core so for now i just bypassed the unit and connected the hose together. thanks for the fast responce i'll keep u guys in my favorites for futher problems....
