There was an oil leak in the oil cooler, which is connectec to the filter, oil was coming out when the motor was running. Now the oil stopped leaking and the check engine light is on, could my oil pump be bad?

Good afternoon,

No, the pump is separate from the cooler. It also will not set a code.

If it is leaking, replace the cooler. It is an easy replacement and if enough oil leaks out, it could damage the motor.

Hello,

To find out if your pump is bad, you need to test the oil pressure.
In order to test the pressure you will have to remove the oil pressure sensor and plug in oil pressure test gauge. Those test kits you can rent from your local auto parts store.

The oil pressure sensor is located on the lower right side, front of the engine. Below the power steering pump bracket.

The check engine light may or may not be related to the oil issue.
You will need to scan the vehicle for the code(s), that will help with the diagnostics.

Please let me know of any questions.
Thank you.
