I have a 2001 1.4L Ford Focus Zetec CL 3 door. It currently has 53000 miles on the clock. About 4 weeks ago after we had some rain I noticed that my car engine started miss firing quite badly. At the same time I noticed that quite a few electrical things stopped working :- the internal lights (glove box and car interior),rear wind screen wiper and rear heated windscreen, front intermittent wiper, reverse light. I tried replacing the fuses related to the electrics that were not working and this did not work. I took the car in to a garage and they informed me that the ignition coil pack had shorted out with the wet and had blown the ECU. So they sent the ECU off to be repaired and installed the refurbished ECU and a new ignition coil pack...they also changed the plugs and HD leads (not exactly sure why). When I got my car back the miss firing had stopped but the electrics still did not work and after driving 50 miles the engine light came on and stayed on. Any ideas?

The engine light coming on happened to my car and had to do with some recall on the 2000-2002 Focuses. Look it up there are a few things that need to be repaired free of charge at a Ford dealership. Battery cables..fuel system issue...many more.
