My car is making a tapping/vibrating noise. I cannot figure out where it's coming from--somewhere under the hood. It just started today and you can hear it more when it's idling or running at a low speed. Has recently had work--alternator, battery, general maintenance. From years ago, when I was married to an auto mechanic, the sound was a little bit like a valve tapping. Do you have any idea what it could be or worse case scenario? I know I will have to have it looked at, but just recovering from back surgery it may be a few days before I can have someone take it in.
