Ok, I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to cars and this is my very first so here it goes. I tried to start my car yesterday morning right after a big snow storm. It started to stutter to life but then shut down. At first I thought it might be the weather because when its cold it takes a little longer to start, but as it warmed up later in the day, I got the same result. I also thought it might be the battery but the radio works as does my lights. So I am really not sure what it could be. I am taking it to my father's mechanic tomorrow but I would like to know at least what I might be dealing with when I go in. Any suggestions? Thank you.

There is a bulletin for 2003-2004 ford focus; it deals with hard starting in cold weather. The culprit is a defective PCV valve that gets stuck open resulting in the hard starting and stalling.
I know you have a 2001 focus, but you may be dealing with a similar problem.
You should also check your fuel pressure.
