Engine Cooling problem
2000 Ford Focus 108000 miles

hey, im have a coolant leaking problem where it doesnt leak when the engine/coolant is hot, but when the car cools down completly, it is leaking. i could tell that the leaking is coming from the thermostat housing and probably something to do with the thermostat opening and closing. i took the housing out, thinking it was the rubber o ring, but the housing and the o ring seems fine. i have no idea why its leaking...can anyone give me insight?

Well, if it’s leaking from the thermostat housing, I’d say the housing gasket is probably worn out. Either that or the coolant leaks at the hose and runs down the housing which makes it look like it’s the housing. While you’re replacing the gasket, I’d suggest you replace the thermostat ($5) at the same time if it’s still the original one. At 108K miles, it’ll go bad rather sooner than later.
