BURNING OUT ALTERNATORS

2000 Ford Focus

Engine Performance problem
2000 Ford Focus 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 149000 miles

My car recently started having problems with the alternator and the battery. While I was driving, my cars gauges went crazy so I took it to be tested and the alternator wasn't working and the battery was very weak. I bought a new alternator and replaced it and less than a week later my car started sputtering and then one of my faulty lights came on so I pulled into a parking lot, and shut my car off and when I went to turn it back on it wouldn't start and my lights in the dash flicked on a off and made a clicking noise. I checked the wires going to the alternator to make sure nothing came loose, but my car still wouldn't start and I even tried popping the clutch which didn't help either. So then I put a new battery in and my car started right up. Less than a week later my car did the same thing and wouldn't start again. I replaced the alternator for a second time and tested the 1st one that I had put in which showed that it was now bad, but my car was still sputtering after putting the 2nd alternator in. I charged the battery and took it in today to be tested again, and it showed that the alternator isn't working again. This is the second alternator now to stop working. What is wrong with my car that it keeps burning out alternators?
