Surprising its not overheating-

I have to top the water up because after 3 hours of drving the water finishes. If there's no external leakage its either burning in the cylinders or going to the oil crankcase. For no heat could be the heater control valve or a clogged heater core and stuck open thermostat.

Any white smoke coming out of the exhaust?

Thanks for your reply, much appreciated!
The car does heat up after the 3 hours of driving which causes the car to stall and the thermo dial on red. What is it I should do and what do you think are the cost? I was told could be the head gasket?
