1991 Ford Festiva timing belt

I just bought this as a commuter car, and am unsure of the past service done on it. Is this an engine with zero tolerance on the valves so that when the timing belt breaks the pistons hit the the valves and damage it all? Or does it just stop running and not damage anything?

Thanks Bryce

It is not an interference engine so nothing should hit if the belt breaks.
