2000 Ford F-450 will start but wont stay running

my hubby ran my f450 deisel out of fuel now it won't stay running . got fuel to the sperartor and can get it to start using starter fluid but it dies after it. what can i do and how do i do it

Have you checked the filter? Best to replace it, and if possible fill it with fuel then put it on carefully...I am not a deisel guy, but bus mechanic pals do this every time the fuel filter is replaced.
