2000 Ford F-450 will start but wont stay running

2000 Ford F-450 V8 Four Wheel Drive

my hubby ran my f450 deisel out of fuel now it won't stay running. Got fuel to the sperartor and can get it to start using starter fluid but it dies after it. What can I do and how do I do it

Have you checked the filter? Best to replace it, and if possible fill it with fuel then put it on carefully.I am not a deisel guy, but bus mechanic pals do this every time the fuel filter is replaced.
