Transmission problem
2002 Ford F350 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 56000 miles

Drop down box does not allow for V10 motor. When I get the superduty up to about 45-50mph and the overdrive/torque convertor reaches lockup I can hear a vibration/groaning noise plus vibration through the floor boards. The noise does not go away unless I stop accellerating and then reply the gas. This solves the problem until the next time the torque convertor reaches lockup again. I did take my truck to the dealer and they said the problem was my transmission solenoid which they replaced and problem still exists. (After paying the $900.00 for the repair they admitted that they never did duplicate the problem and told me that it would be fixed with the solenoid due to a code that was in the computer. Before I took it in and after "repair" when I drove it and duplicated the problem several times there never was a engine light tripped on my dash.) Now they are telling me they want $400.00 to open up my transfer case and look around. ANY HELP would be appreciatted.

My personal opinion is that ford supplies very weak torque convertors on every automatic transmission they have sold since 1990. At 56 K, if a transmission filter and oil change does not fix the issue, I would suspect the torque convertor, I have replaced 6 on different vehicles from 1990 - 2004. There may not be a visible code in the ECM but a scan can show failure of torque convertor lock-up in OD. When it shakes down into OD you will feel a shudder, then a "skip" then lockup.
