My B6 transmission is suddenly acting strangly. It shifts into reverse and operates normally. When I put in in any forward gear it engages intermittently and weakly, easily overwhelmed when put under load.

I use this truck to haul trailers. Yesterday I moved 6300 lbs of hay and I thought I felt a little slipping. This morning I moved an empty trailer, but when I hooked up to a heavier stock trailer, this problem began. Can you suggest any thing a home mechanic can do?

Pray!
Then take the pan off and see if there's any metal or clutch material in there. Change fluid and screen.

When we pulled the pan off the tranny nothing was apparent, like metal or filter debris. Checked the torque converter too. But after we put it back together and filled with new fluid it was happy again.

We figure a piece of filter came loose and clogged the valve that feeds all forward gears.

Thanks for your help!
