Rear end gear change

I HAVE A 2000 F-150 4.6 V8 EXT CAB 8FT BED AND A 355 REAR END GEAR, FOR FUEL MILEAGE REASONS
WOULD YOU RECOMMEND REPLACING THE 355 WITH A 308 GEAR ? WHAT IS THE DOWN SIDE OF CHANGING TO A 308 ?

THANKS

If i was you i would leave the 3.55 gears in because your not gonna gain anymore than a couples mpg's but lose alot of bottom end

I second that. Your engine will generally turn at a lower rpm... do a lot more lugging if you go to 3.08's. Keep the 3.55's and the engine will be a lot more efficient by running in it's optimum powerband. You'll have more power to the wheels and get better fuel economy.
