My battery died and I got a jump-start. After it started the light came on and has stayed on.

Most likely due from the weak battery, you can follow this guide to get the codes

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/checking-a-service-engine-soon-or-check-engine-light-on-or-flashing

post the code(s) you get here and i will follow up.

Engine light currently on. In cool weather truck runs well, but when it gets hot the truck really surges and sputters. Any ideas?

Check engine light:

Have the computer scanned for code/s-you have a problem within the engine management system that caused the CEL to turn on-This is your starting point of diagnosis, finding out what's going on.

Trouble starting. After about 3 cranks of the engine it starts after the 3rd. Check engine light recently came on because of this. What could issue be?

Since the engine light is on the best thing to do is just take it to a local auto part store and ask them to retrieve your vehicle's trouble code(s). This should pinpoint the culprit.

Had to end up doing that.
Truck still runs fine.
Error code turned out to be a mis-fire code.
Have to replace the plugs and hope none of them break before it its done.

Thanks for the response

After you start the truck, when you shut it off, you have to wait about ten second for the check engine light to come back on. Will not pass inspection.

The check engine light go off when it running.
What I have found out is that this will happen after you rest the the computer or unhook the battery.
Until the computer goes through all it test.
Drove the truck all day yesterday and have two more incomplete, hopeful it will clear today.
Thank You

5.4 liter ford engine light on with engine icon. Does not overheat. Oil pressure guage shows correct pressure. When running to long engine will shut down. What could be wrong?

Since engine light is on best thing to do is retrieve trouble code(s) that are stored by vehicle's computer, most local auto part stores will do this for free of charge. Post the code(s) you get and I will follow up

The place to start is by reading the diagnostic fault code. That will indicate the circuit or system that needs further diagnosis. Many auto parts stores will do that for you for free.

Thanks Krski, I should have mentioned that I know what the 2 codes are. I just don't know why 1st and 2nd gear quit working at the car wash. Is there something that could have come unplugged or failed that is simple and I'm overlooking. If the speed sensor went bad would this happen? Being that the truck is just out of warranty I was hoping to find something that I could fix.

The car wash may just be a coincidence. Although the wire harness going to the tranmission may also have shorted from the water spray. IDid you try to clear the code and see if the MIL turns back on. Are you having any apparent problems with the transmission. I have a feeling that it is an electrical bug.

I have a 2006 f-150 that was purchased recently and my service engine light appeared on in route from work the other day. I have a obd2 engine checker that has been useful for many years, but it will not work on this truck, it flashes 8s (malfunction) when attempting to scan. The truck has a intercooled roush supercharger installed on it and I know the pcm was sent to them for re-programing as part of the supercharger install. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the issue or is the truck running off a different system that my scanner is not compadible with?
