I have recently purchased a 2000 ford taurus with 115000 miles and have a problem I hope you can help with. It is a 2000 model year with 115000 miles and a 3.0 litre non OHC engine. The situation is that the engine misfires under acceleration when you shift into passing gear. To accompany this problem it seems to misfire, but not as dramatically, when you are cruising at 55 mph. I am sure these are the same problem. I am suspicious of the coil pack or mass air sensor. Can you offer any suggestions

Take it to autozone, they will test the coil for free. Leave it in the car!
