1988 Ford F-150 Ignition switch replacement

How do I install the new ignition switch properly? I am having to push the rod with vice grips and the ignition switch is spinning. Do you have any diagrams/pictures that would help? Thanks

What part of the switch are you trying to replace the key and tumbler or the switch near the bottom of the column? Once I know what part you are in question of then I can be of more help.

Here are some pictures of where I'm at. I have the ignition switch in, but still have to start the truck with the vice grips. I need to connect the switch to the rod, but can't get the steering wheel off. What do I do from here?
