My ford explorer will not start

ford explorer 1999... 99,887...v6?

My car will sound like it is going to start and then cut off.....if i turn the key and keep my foot on the gas it will run until i let up off the gas....Can you tell me what type of problem this could be?

Could be a vacuum leak. Has the engine backfired lately? sometimes they will blow vacuum lines off the intake when that happens.When I say backfire I mean chugs like when it isnt cranked long enough to really start and kinda burps.Look around under the hood for a clean fitting on the intake, that would be where the line was

I haven't heard any backfiring....could it be the IAC valve?
