Ford explorer 1999. 99,887.V6?

My car will sound like it is going to start and then cut off. If I turn the key and keep my foot on the gas it will run until I let up off the gas. Can you tell me what type of problem this could be?

Could be a vacuum leak. Has the engine backfired lately? Sometimes they will blow vacuum lines off the intake when that happens. When I say backfire I mean chugs like when it isnt cranked long enough to really start and kinda burps. Look around under the hood for a clean fitting on the intake, that would be where the line was

I haven't heard any backfiring. Could it be the IAC valve?
