Working on 1992 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer Edition the power steering fluid leaked out of the steering gear box thru the sector shaft ,pressure seal pushed down on the dust seal and it knocked down the snap ring.The Ford has over 115,000 and is a 4.0 4 wheel drive. I put in a new pressure seal and dust seal with a new snap ring. Drove the truck around for two days the seals blew out again. The second time , I put the seals back in filled the power steering pump up with transmission fluid type "f" a little at a time to work out the air by turning the steering only a little way each time to bleed the pump. By doing this the seal blew out for the thrid time.But before the seal blew the steering pump started to whine really loud. Have any one heard of this problem? Put in a new power steering pump but still blowing out the seals. I run the truck for 5 minutes turning the steering three fourth of the way both directions and I didn't see any more air bubbles but as soon as I turn it to the stop side it blows out the seals.
