My explorer shifts to first and second gear, but revs really hard before shifting to third. Once it gets past third, it's okay. Can someone who has had this problem or anythign similar share with me?

My 2002 ford explorer 2WD has a little over 100,000 miles on it and I have the same problem. I went to a repair shop that said i would need to take it to a transmission specialists to get it looked at. I will be replacing the fluid and fliter today. I will reply again to let you know if this helps at all. Anyone else have any info to help us out?

I completely lost 3rd gear after I posted my question. Turns out I need a new transmission. I hope you don't have the same problem , because it terribly expensive to get a new one.
