2002 Ford Explorer Replacing Break Pads

I have been told that I have to have a dealer change the break pads on my Explorer because it takes special tools to change them. I have changed alot of pads on other vehicles and would like to know if this is true or can I change the pads just like any other vehicle I have done? Thanks
