2002 Ford Explorer i dont know why plz help

I own a 2002 ford explorer xlt the 4 wheel drive worked fine,now it only works sometimes an i noticed only the left rear tire spins?

Hi:
First, it's normal for only one tire to spin on an axle. The tire with the least resistence will spin the other won't. Now as far as the 4wd, what I need you to check is for power to the actuator on the transmission. When the problem occurrs, you need to have a helper switch fro 2hi to 4hi while you check for power at the actuator. That is the electrical motor mounted on the transfer case that does the shifting for you. If you have power, chances are the actuator is bad.

NOTE: If you hear a grinding or clunking when the 4wd is in, that is a different problem and you must let me know.
