I recently purchased a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport with 80K miles. The car seems to be riding loud especially at speeds of 20-40 mph. I get a repetitive sound that seems as if it is coming from the tires. It sounds like tire noise because it seems to be direclty linked to the speed I am driving but I am not sure. I feel the vibrations in the floor as well. The place I purchased the car is going to do a wheel balancing and alignment soon, but I just wanted to see if I should have them look at anything else when it is in the shop. Thanks for the help in advanced!

A lot of times if the tires are not rotated soon enough they will get cupped on the read tires. When you put them on the front, they can make a small roar. If the rotation and balnace corrects the problem, if may only be short lived until the next rotation. Have them check the front tires for cupping.

Thanks for the reply, but after spending hours reading through a lot of posts from the past, I just wanted to make sure that my problem is not caused by a potentially more serious issue. I am not a mechanic by any means.A major novice when it comes to vehicles. But the reply did ease some concern. And I thank you. I read responses like "CV joints" or "bent axle" when people were having noises on the road. Don't laugh, but if you say the following fast. It is kind of what it sounds like. VERY LOUD. When driving at slow speeds."Wow-wow-wow-wow-wow-wow". Thanks again for the response!
