The engine has never shown any overheating issues. While driving on the highway, the engine temp gauge started to indicate a over heated engine. In trying to reach the nearest exit I ran the car with the temp gauge at hot for several miles. Then the car started losing power. Smoke came out from under the hood. Smoke came up through the center console. The engine stopped running, so I coasted to the next exit. With the car stopped I checked the engine and found a hole in the upper radiator hose. All the coolant was gone and there was coolant everywhere under the hood.
After having the car towed home, I cleaned the coolant from the engine exterior and tried to start the engine, to see if it had siezed during overheating. The engine turned over rather easy. All the belts were moving during engine starting. However, the engine would not fire up. The engine seemed to turn over too easily, compared to normal.
What type of damage did I cause by letting the engine overheat too long and why is the engine not showing evidence of firing up.
