My check engine light had been on for about 2 months and after having someone check it they said it was a mis-fire. Well my car battery died a few days ago so I replaced it. Well as soon as I replaced the battery the check engine light went off. I was told to go and have it tested and get the code, but my local auto repair shop said that they would not be able to get a code if the light wasn't on. I am concerned that it went off by itself, without having a definite answer as to why. I hoping that you can provide me with some insight to this problem. I also noticed that whenI filled my gas tank up last, the tank was almost empty a day later. I don't smell gas in my car and there are no puddles underneath. Could this be atributed to my check engine light/battery situation, or something totally different?
