Thumping noise coming from front or possibly the drivetrain very pronounced when put into 4 wheel drive

The vehicle will need to be test drove by a mechanic to find the exact cause of the "thumping" there are numerous joints and bushes this could be coming from. A look underneath at the running gear may give you a clue. But it really needs to be on a lift. Not with wheels on floor underload.
