I went to a mechanic to get my inspection renewed and I failed (which I knew I would) for more reasons then I had anticipated. The check engine light was on so they ran the simple test to get the codes which came back as P0171 or P0174. I declined the total diagnostic because their price was around $100 and I wanted to wait and find out more info first. They also failed my car saying that I needed ball joints replaced and wheel bearing repack.
Honestly I know very little about these kinds of things and don't want to get over charged.
What do you think I should do and how much will all this cost me?
Unfortunately I don't have the ability to do any repairs on my own, I googled for the how-to videos and its way out of my league!
I'd appreciate any insight you could provide, I hate when mechanics try to take advantage of people like me who have little car knowledge.
Thanks.
